2024 marked 10 years of sharing (and caring!) for the Edinburgh Tool Library. From our beginnings once a week at the Leith Walk Police Box, to lending thousands of tools to communities across Edinburgh, the ETL community has grown so much.
We took time to celebrate!
Thank you so much for everyone who’ve joined us in celebrating a decade of community, resourcefulness, and making with a programme of 10 events from a Parliamentary Reception, a retrospective weekend exhibition to a celebratory Ceilidh! Photo album coming soon!
Whatâs next?
Over the 10 years of sharing, we have completed 60,000 tool loans and delivered hundreds of community outreach projects, but whatâs next in our incredible journey?!
With our 10th birthday approaching, we have embarked on a journey of exploration of what our future could look like and we are excited to share more about our plans for the future.

We will bring tools to your neighbourhood, with more tool library hubs, pop-up satellite services, and new ShareBoxes being introduced across Edinburgh (lockers accessed using codes).
Weâll run hyper-local volunteering opportunities for you to share tools, learn skills and join the community effort to democratise access to knowledge and build local resilience.
Weâll use our passion for making and repairing to tackle isolation, loneliness, poor mental health, and unemployment by expanding our outreach services. This will create a safer space and learning opportunities for folks who might not have had a chance before.
Weâll continue to be a place of experimentation, receptive to new ideas, and supportive of our volunteersâ initiatives.
Weâll continue collaborating with local community groups, charities and services to deliver ground-up transformations for Edinburgh!
Please donate today!
Join us on this journey and if you can, please donate to help secure our future; as a charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help us so that we can help you and your community.

Tooligan Initiatives

Donât miss out on the amazing opportunities we have helped our Tooligans grow under the ETL banner. Among these volunteer-led initiatives are our tools sharpening and draught proofing service, Repair Cafe Edinburgh, the Cycle kitchen and the first satellite library in Colinton. As we grow, we would like to introduce new ideas.
Open to new ideas
Do you have any suggestions for us?
We are particularly inspired by the following initiatives. What if we could bring these to life in Edinburgh?!
Bring us closer to you

- You are part of a group or community that would love access to our resources but might need a bit more support?
- You work for an organisation that might be interested in hosting or collaborating with ETL?
What do we offer?
We’re bringing a solid set of tools to start with as well as our inventory and membership management systems so that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. And because we’re about giving access to tools as well the skills you need to use these tools, we curate with you for local groups a programme of learning opportunities.
Fill in our contact form below to let us know where we are needed!
Hereâs to the next 10 years of sharing!
Thank YOU!
